Reactive Land Use Controls: a Simulation Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
This study assesses the macroeconomic effects of minimum-lot-size requirements and building permit caps that have been implemented by some of the suburban municipalities in the Chicago metropolitan area. This is accomplished by using the spatial regional econometric inputoutput framework, which overcomes the shortcomings of traditional top-down approach to vertical regional economy – land use integration. The model simulation results reveal that the reactive land use regulations (minimum lot size zoning and permit caps), which bind local housing supply and population growth within the jurisdictions, 1) dampen the pace of regional economic growth considerably, although the actions are sometimes favorable to the long-term prosperity of the individual implementing municipalities; 2) tend to generate disproportionate impacts on different sectors of the economy – i.e. local sectors, which heavily depend on household expenditures, are affected more strenuously; and 3) induce effects that vary substantially by location and timing of the implementation.

Simulation and prediction of land use and land cover change using GIS, remote sensing and CA-Markov model
This study analyzes the characteristics of land use/land cover change in Jordan’s Irbid governorate, 1984–2018, and predicts future land use/land cover for 2030 and 2050 using a cellular automata-Markov model. The results inform planners and decision makers of past and current spatial dynamics of land use/land cover change and predicted urban expansion, for a better understanding and successful...
متن کاملLand Use Change Simulation Using CLUE-s Model in the Watershed of Doroodzan Dam
Land use change is an essential determinant factor in hydrological processes and it affects many of them. Simulation of land use changes, rise in residential and agricultural area and its effects are among the most important issues related to the watershed management. The objective of this research is land use change detection in the past and simulation of future land use using CLUE-s Model. At...
متن کاملSimulation of Runoff Quality in Sub-catchment of Karkheh Watershed Using a Field Rain Simulator
In this study, the effects of three land use categories on runoff quality was investigated using a rainfall simulator, in six sub-catchments in Kakasharaf watershed in Lorestan province. In total, 39 instances of artificial rain with a duration 30 min were created and the amount of phosphorus and potassium in the resulting runoff was measured on three land uses. The results showed that the aver...

Urban growth is a dynamic and evolutionary spatial and social process that relates to the changes of urban spatial units and the transformation of people’s lifestyles and consequently demographic changes. Considering the urban development process as a function of land uses interactions, population structure and the strategic behavior of the agents involved in the urban development process (the ...

INTRODUCTION Since the land use change affects many natural processes including soil erosion and sediment yield, floods and soil degradation and the chemical and physical properties of soil, so, different aspects of land use changes in the past and future should be considered particularly in the planning and decision-making. One of the most important applications of remote sensing is land ...
